About the firm · Edmonton, AB
An Edmonton law firm built for real problems, not billable theatre
Bhalla Law Offices brings more than three decades of Canadian law experience to the matters that change people's lives: separations, criminal charges, injuries, property, and estates. We explain the law plainly and represent you carefully.
Who we are
Bhalla Law Offices is a general practice law firm based in Edmonton, Alberta. We act for individuals, families, and owner-operated businesses across the capital region in matters that are rarely straightforward and almost never convenient. Most clients come to us at a difficult moment: a marriage ending, a charge laid, a collision on Anthony Henday Drive, or a parent's estate that needs to be settled.
Our approach is deliberately practical. We start by working out what actually matters to you, then we set out the routes available under Alberta and federal law, the realistic timelines, and what each option is likely to cost. Where a negotiated resolution serves you better than litigation, we say so. Where a matter needs to be argued, we prepare it properly and argue it.
We are a small firm by design. That means you deal directly with the lawyer handling your file rather than an intake team, and it means we take on matters we can genuinely service. It also means we can respond quickly when something urgent happens, which in criminal and family matters is often the difference that counts.

Four commitments that shape every file
These are not slogans. They are the standards we hold ourselves to on the ordinary days, when a matter is going slowly and nobody is watching.
Judgement before tactics
Every file starts with an honest assessment of where you stand. Strategy follows the facts and the law, not the other way around, and we tell you when a fight is not worth the cost.
Access to your lawyer
You speak with the lawyer responsible for your matter. Questions get answered, calls get returned, and you are never handed off to someone who has not read your file.
Confidentiality by default
What you tell us is protected by solicitor-client privilege. Records are stored securely and shared only with your instructions or where the law requires disclosure.
Plain language, always
Alberta procedure is full of terminology that hides simple ideas. We translate it, and we put the important points in writing so you can review them later.
Courts and tribunals we practise before
Knowing the forum matters. Procedure, filing requirements, and scheduling differ sharply between Alberta's court levels, and getting that wrong costs clients time and money.
Alberta Court of Justice
Criminal first appearances, bail hearings, provincial family matters, and civil claims within the court monetary limit.
Court of King's Bench of Alberta
Divorce and family property proceedings, superior court civil litigation, indictable criminal matters, and estate applications.
Federal tribunals
Immigration applications and responses to IRCC, including sponsorship, permits, and refusal reviews.
How the practice developed
The firm grew the way most useful general practices do: by answering the questions clients actually brought through the door.
- Foundation
A general practice built around access
Bhalla Law Offices was established to give Edmonton families and small businesses a single place to bring legal problems, from a first criminal charge to a first home purchase.
- Growth
Four core practice areas
Demand shaped the practice into family law, criminal defence, personal injury, and wills and estates, supported by real estate, immigration, and business law services.
