Important notice about this website

General information published by a law firm is useful background, not advice. This page sets out the limits of what you should take from this website and when you need to speak with a lawyer instead.

General information only

Every page on this website, including practice area descriptions, client information guides, and articles, is written for a general audience. It summarises how Alberta and Canadian law usually work. It cannot account for the facts of your matter, the position taken by the other side, or changes in the law after publication.

Legal outcomes depend on evidence, procedure, timing, and judicial discretion. Two matters that sound similar in a summary can resolve very differently.

No solicitor-client relationship

Using this website, emailing the firm, or leaving a message does not make you a client. Before we can act, we must check for conflicts of interest, confirm that the matter is one we can properly handle, and put the retainer in writing.

Until an engagement is confirmed, please do not send confidential or sensitive material. Information sent before a retainer exists may not be protected in the way you expect, and receiving unsolicited information can create conflicts that prevent us from acting for you at all.

If a deadline is close, call rather than email

Email is not monitored continuously. Where a court date, limitation period, or filing deadline is imminent, telephone the office so the matter can be triaged the same day.

Alberta focus

Our lawyers are licensed to practise in Alberta. Content on this site is written with Alberta law and procedure in mind, along with the federal statutes that apply across Canada, such as the Divorce Act, the Criminal Code, and federal immigration legislation.

If your matter is governed by the law of another province, territory, or country, the rules described here may not apply. We can often refer you to counsel in the appropriate jurisdiction.

No guarantee of results

Nothing on this website is a promise or prediction about the outcome of any matter. Descriptions of past work and client comments reflect particular circumstances and do not indicate what will happen in another case. We do not offer guarantees, and any lawyer who does should be treated with caution.

External content and accuracy

We take care to keep this site accurate, but we do not warrant that it is complete or current, and we may change content without notice. External links are provided for convenience only. This page was last reviewed in July 2026.
